Wife, toddler and myself went for lunch for the first time. It was busy enough on a Sunday before noon that my expectations were high. Food did not disappoint. We ordered three apps, potstickers, tofu satay and roti telur. The potstickers and satay were average, but the roti was good. My wife has the shrimp laksa curry and I had the jalapeƱo beef. My dish was very good. Will order again. The curry was good as well. The restaurant was clean and the service was good.

This is my favorite restaurant in the whole world. I can't even begin to explain how much of an impact this restaurant has had on me. The first time I ever went to Malaya kitchen was maybe about 10 (or more) years ago when I was 7 years old. Immediately, I fell in love with the Thai tea. At that point I was too young to care about food. As I grew older, however, this place became my escape. Throughout high school, every time I felt sad, I would come to Malaya Kitchen to pick up a Thai tea, and my worries were automatically resolved. I loved the Thai tea so much that I even tried making it at home, but to this day, I'm unable to replicate the taste of the Thai tea at malaya kitchen. Moving on to the food, in middle school I would only stick to the Singapore rice noodles because it was simply amazing and I thought nothing could ever top it. However, my dad would always get the spicy cilantro chicken, and upon trying it, tears fell out of my eyes because of how amazing the flavor was. This became my next go-to dish. Then, I realized I wanted to try some new dishes. I tried the chicken fried rice, and the chicken was so flavored and amazing in the fried rice. I also tried the Malaysian noodles, and I dream about it every night. The chili chicken was also an amazing option considering I love spicy food and this had the perfect amount of spice. My mom is vegetarian, and she always used to order the curry laksa, pad Thai, or the mee goreng. All I can say was.. amazing. Then, she ended up switching from those 3 "usuals" to trying out the spicy cilantro chicken, but with tofu instead of chicken. This was an absolute game changer for her and she LOVES it. As for appetizers, the roti canai will be the most beautiful, flavorful food you will ever eat. Fun fact, my family invented the spicy cilantro chicken (it originally came with beef I think), but we asked for it with chicken and it was then placed on the menu. I've talked enough about the food. Let's talk about the people there. I've gone there so many times to pick up Thai tea that they now know me as the "Thai tea girl." They always ask me about how school is going and are the nicest people in the world. I love malaya kitchen; I've taken everybody important to me to malaya kitchen and they can all attest to how amazing this place is. My only regret is going out of state for college because now I won't be able to get malaya kitchen as much. Truly though, this is, and will always be my favorite restaurant.

The beef rendang was flavorful and delicious! The rice was a little hard for my liking, but it still went well with the rest of the dish. It was nice how the servers kept checking up on our table and refilling our drinks. Additionally, our food came out pretty fast. This is a pleasant place for a comfort meal in a laid-back setting.

I can't say enough good things about Malaya Kitchen. The service is friendly and fast and the food is fantastic. My favorite is the pad Thai but I have tried a couple of other dishes and been pleasantly surprised by all of it. The portion sizes are generous which is great because I love having leftovers. The environment of the restaurant is casual and typically pretty quiet. It's a good place to go for a date night or for a meal with a friend.

Descent food. Everything we ordered was pretty flavorful. The only complaint was that the spicy dishes were not spicy enough. Server was friendly and checked in with us frequently. Good place for casual gatherings. It's not a fine dinning environment. Price reasonable.

Great experience with pick up. This time we went with two lunch specials - padhimmingpan chicken and shrimp with eggplant. Both were spicy and delicious.

One of the best Asian spot in Charlotte! The owners are from the food Mecca of Malaysia so they know their stuff and apparently they've been around for over a decade! Was excited to share with my family who's visiting that CLT does have Malaysian food and seeing authentic dish like belacan okra brings me back home. Obvi they add some other stuff to improve because it's Charlotte (aka not to be compared to scenes like NYC) but overall, will come back here whenever I want to share my culture with peeps in CLT :) Tip: they cook FAST - deff an efficient system since this means they prep everything earlier on Dishes 1) Beef Rendang: 7/10. They deff made this earlier in the day and then heat up when serving. They cooked the beef well as they did not overcook after reheat 2) Belacan Okra: 8/10 - this hits the spot because belacan sauce is authentic to Malaysian cuisine with its shrimp paste chili base 3) hainan chicken: 7/10 - Malaysia is a melting pot so you get flavors and dishes inspired by all kinds of Asian from Indian, Muslim, and different types of Chinese cuisine like this from Hainan 4) Roti Canai: 7/10 Indian inspired - crispier and crepe like 5) sarang burong: 6/10 taro seemed to be fried with old oil but also could be because we're there at late around 9pm 6) chicken satay: 5/10 chicken is a bit dry, woudl try beef next time since they ran out

Our family goes here at least once a week. The foods on the menu here are comfort foods for us. The ambiance is casual family friendly. The waitstaff here knew us since our kids were toddler and know our preferences for drinks to hot sauces so we know the service here will always be great. It does get very busy here Friday night so the kitchen can get backed up so we try to avoid that. Our favorite dishes here are: any curries and noodles dishes. Yum!
